Dear Friends & Volunteers

 

We will be heading out to PJ Caring Home (PJ Old Town )

Is a home for those who suffer from different type of mental illness who are homeless or from poor income group. It is one of the first to adopt an open concept method ie allowing most patients to lead a life as ordinary as possible, encouraging interaction with society. Activities include short trips out to the shops and having a drink at the local coffee-shop.

There are total of 150 people age range from 19 years old till 80++ years old staying in this 5 houses around in Old Town . There is a Boys' home, a Girls' home and an Elderly's Home.

The home is run by twelve full time staff who offer guidance and help. They aid in driving the patients to the hospital for medical consultation, preparation of meals, day to day errands, office work, organizing activities for the patients like gardening projects, classroom activities and games, exercise programs, etc

For your information, they need to change their pillow & mattress  every 6 months due to urine on mattress and health issue for the elderly. Therefore, you are most welcome to contribute /donate NEW pillows & mattress directly to the home

This weekend food will be cooked by a birthday BOY and wifey. However, we need volunteers to assist them as well as follows:-

1) Food Preparation team - Washing and cutting vegetable ...(anything related to preparation for cooking). 3 - 4 volunteers to assist. Also washing up the utensils after the preparation

2) Cooking  team- Need at least 3 - 4 volunteers to  assist.  

3) Washing/clean up team – some of you may not be following us for food distribution therefore we greatly appreciate your stay back in the centre to wash/clean up the kitchen  before heading home.

All the above team volunteers are to be at the centre by 7.30am. And all cooking must end by 10.30am. Every dish is ready, need volunteers to load it into our lorry immediately.

For those who just want to help us in food distribution, make your own arrangement to meet us at our centre and we shall convoy to the Home by 10.30am. We will need your help to set up, unload food ,serving and back to the centre to assist cleaning up the remaining. Their lunch starts at 11.30am.

Each meals and wheels we head out, not only we distribute food, volunteers are encourage to talk, mingle, listen to them and care for them. You are most welcome going extra mile for them. If you are a good entertainer, bring your guitar and sing them song..who knows they can sing too….. like Susan Boyle!
